Field of Pumpkins

-Pumpkin Patch,Autumn Trees,Power Lines,November,Daily Painting

I found this huge field of pumpkins, in fact there were several fields of pumpkins and two open air drying sheds full of tobacco. I've never seen so many pumpkins in one place. I love the color orange, so it was a no brainer to stop here and paint. Once again I limited my palette to five or six colors. When you are dealing with color, it is all about the relationships, limiting the palette helps me gain greater control over those relationships. When I am dealing with the light, I want greater control over the values of my color and again I think the limited palette is helpful with that.
For those in the Tennessee Valley, this field is not too far from Fayetteville, it is the Dennison Family Farm.

Looks just like some of the fields here in the UK! I really like this series of paintings and am just getting back into landscape painting myself after concentrating on still life. I'd be interested to know what colours you are using in your limited palette.

Hi Marie, Thank you for the nice comment. My palette on the last 4 paintings has been a basic earth color palette of Burnt Umber, Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson and Cobalt Blue.My white is Titanium White and I have also sparingly used Cadmium Yellow.

I saw a scene like this near my house and thought, that would never translate into a painting! - I'm kicking myself now for not trying, this looks great, next year I'm going to make myself go back!!! You have such great painting skills, do you ever run into a subject in which you think, no way, I am NOT doing that! Or are you open to painting just about anything?
