This barn was among the very first subjects I sketched as a boy. I ran and played and had many adventures in the fields around this barn but only ever sketched the white barn from the road. This view is from the back, up a little hillside. If ever I move home again this is where I'd like to live.

I was painting with a friend this day. We went up to West Rock in New Haven. It was a cloudy morning with the sun peeking out every once in awhile. The challenge here was to paint something that didn't really grab my attention and only had the light I like for a moment or two but was kind of magical when the sun did come out for those few seconds.

As I was walking up Whitney Blvd. in New Haven one afternoon I came across this interesting building. I was attracted by the late day light on the pink decorative shingles and the golden yellow brick. I never did notice whose building it was but I did see that it was next to the Daughters of Isabella.
The Daughters of Isabella is a female auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. The first Daughters of Isabella circle was formed in New Haven, Connecticut in 1897.

The view from a little way up Prospect St. This is the building that my graduation ceremony was held in many years ago. It was a riot of energy and color as students rushed to and from class and then it was eerily quiet until the next break between classes.
