We spent the afternoon in Little Italy on the east side of Cleveland. After a very nice lunch and coffee and cannoli at Presti's bakery I found this view through an alley and behind the store fronts.

November Morning-Ohio Farm House Barn Daily Painting
The first of my paintings in Ohio. It was a cool moist morning, very different from the mornings in Alabama and Tennessee. I am still using a limited palette but I have switched from Cobalt Blue to Ultramarine Blue, not for any real reason, just felt like a change and I had a tube of it. It is so good to be home!

2 More Visual Development Illustrations
Here are two more visual development pieces from the same film project I worked on awhile back. I posted these because I am leaving for Thanksgiving with my family. I haven't been home in almost 3 months and am really looking forward to this trip. This will be the first Thanksgiving that we aren't all together, my oldest is away at college and with work and school isn't able to come home just yet, but in another month we will all be together for Christmas, that is something I am thankful for.

Field of Pumpkins -Pumpkin Patch,Autumn Trees,Power Lines,November,Daily Painting
I found this huge field of pumpkins, in fact there were several fields of pumpkins and two open air drying sheds full of tobacco. I've never seen so many pumpkins in one place. I love the color orange, so it was a no brainer to stop here and paint. Once again I limited my palette to five or six colors. When you are dealing with color, it is all about the relationships, limiting the palette helps me gain greater control over those relationships. When I am dealing with the light, I want greater control over the values of my color and again I think the limited palette is helpful with that.
For those in the Tennessee Valley, this field is not too far from Fayetteville, it is the Dennison Family Farm.

Autumn Across The LandFall November Tree Field Pasture Daily Painting Oil Landscape
I drive past this field and trees every day. Yesterday was clear and sunny and the huge tree (actually 2 trees) seemed to me as if they were a dinosaur walking across the landscape.
I love the light and colors of the month of November and this was lots of fun to paint.
Check out this article it showcases one of my paintings.

November Burnout Fire Smoke Autumn Daily Painting
I came upon this scene and it sort of fit my mood as well as my interest in unusual or overlooked subject matter. I am also attracted by the challenge of painting objects in motion, like the smoke here. You have to closely observe and then work from memory and imagination. It's there and then it isn't.

House in the HillsDaily Painting, Oil, McAFEE Hill,Tennessee
I discovered this spot between Fayetteville and Pulaski Tennessee. It is a family farm with an old house and produce stand out near the road. While I was looking around the house and produce stand the owner pulled up and we talked for a bit. He gave me permission to paint on the property. There are tremendous views across the valley just to the left but I was drawn to the old family home near the road. I will definitely return to the Mcafee farm on Mcafee Road to paint Mcafee hill again.
