“Studio Treasures”

A collection of some of objects that live in my studio

and inspire my imagination and make me smile. I hope to do more 

of these sort of still life paintings. I feel that they have an

architectural quality that I would like to explore.

Oak Leaves and Acorn

“Oak Leaves and Acorn”

After a stormy night, this small casualty landed on my front steps.

I placed it on the morning paper, and a subject was decided. The

Richness of the color against the gray print and the organic leaf shapes

against the straight, measured gray boxes was interesting to me.

"Crackers and Jelly"

Home made Blueberry Jelly on Crackers, yum! This was one of several small 

paintings I did on a rainy day. I chose a few objects for the pure

joy of painting. This is Acrylic on watercolor paper. The image is 7.75" x 7.75".

Riverside

"Riverside"

A page from my Summer Sketchbook. One of my most favorite things to 

do is to sketch along the trails and rivers in the Metro Parks. Watching

and studying the play of light on the trail and the water is a 

peaceful and meditative way to spend an afternoon. As all of my work,

 this is painted on location and from life.  It is Gouache on paper and

the image is 3.5"x 7".

This was my first sketch back in Ohio. I marveled

at the complementary cool shade on the shore and 

the heat of the sun on the river. This is a page

"Quiet Conversation"

Two friends met walking on the beach. They had a conversation and then each went their seperate

way. I saw it and I sketched it. This is another page from my Summer Sketchbook. Painted from life

on Huntington Beach in Bay Village, Ohio. This is Gouache on paper, this image

Morning Light in the Woods

"Morning Light in the Woods"

One of my favorite places to paint, hike and think. It was a very peaceful

and beautiful mornings watching the light streak through

the woods. This is also a page from my Summer Sketchbook.

It was painte on location and from life in the Metro Parks in North Olmstead,

Ohio with Gouache. The image is 3.5" x 6.5" on paper.

Sun Baked

"Sun Baked"

Sometimes I have to look for a subject and sometimes it

appears right in front of me. This was at Huntington

Beach in Bay Village, Ohio. The color relationships are what I

found fascinating. The warm/cool contrasts and the extreme foreshortening.  This is a page from

Beach Party

"Beach Party"

We visited East Harbor State Park and there was a party going on.

The peninsula stretches out into Lake Erie with two miles

of beautiful beaches. 

I loved the bold yellow canopy this group

had as they partied.

"Looking West"

Huntington Beach, Bay Village, Ohio.

 I enjoyed the shade of the trees and cliffs that line the beach as I painted

 the people and the lifeguard enjoying their day at the beach.

it all happens during an afternoon at Huntington Beach.

I shared the shaded part of the beach with a family and

This is a page from my sketchbook. I am drawn to the architecture

of the lifeguard chairs, nothing is more iconic of summer at the beach.
