Somewhere I read that you can re-grow lettuce from the left over stumps. I put them in shallow bowls of water on a window sill for several weeks and sure enough, some of them began to grow. I have replanted a bunch in pots next to our patio.I am growing, Romaine, Red Lettuce and Escarole. We shall see if I have salad this summer.
