Covered Wagon, Hale Farm 3
"Covered Wagon, Hale Farm 3"
The third painting at Hale Farm, from my Summer Sketchbook.

Village House, Hale Farm 4
"Village House, Hale Farm 4"
A page from my Summer Sketchbook. This is the 4th sketch
from my day at the Hale Farm in the Cuyahoga Valley
National Park. Painted in Gouache, it measures 5" x 7.75",
on watercolor paper.
Shortly after I began painting, a group of people showed up and began
setting up rows of chairs and a garden trellis right behind me.
A wedding ceremony had been scheduled for the very spot I had chosen.
I finished my sketch and got out of the way before the guests showed up
but it was pretty distracting to paint with a dozen young people
setting it all up a couple of feet behind me.

Berea Pines
"Berea Pines"
A stand of pine trees caught my attention on this day. The different
qualities of light and shadow, direct light, reflected light,
the warm and cool shadows gave the scene so much clarity.
I was also trying out a new, homemade tripod/easel attachment
that I had mad the day before. It worked pretty well for about
a month and then the tripod broke! Ive since made some revisions and
adapted my easel attachments to another tripod...it
works well enough for the time being.

Stacked Stories
"Stacked Stories"
An intersection of book shelves in my studio. I love to read
and get a particular joy in the look and feel and art and stories of old
children's books. I also like the abstract design of books on shelves.
This is an Acrylic painting, 10.25" x 14.25" on watercolor paper.

Studio Treasures
“Studio Treasures”
A collection of some of objects that live in my studio
and inspire my imagination and make me smile. I hope to do more
of these sort of still life paintings. I feel that they have an
architectural quality that I would like to explore.
This painting is Acrylic, 7.75” x 7.75” on watercolor paper.

Oak Leaves and Acorn
“Oak Leaves and Acorn”
After a stormy night, this small casualty landed on my front steps.
I placed it on the morning paper, and a subject was decided. The
Richness of the color against the gray print and the organic leaf shapes
against the straight, measured gray boxes was interesting to me.
This is an Acrylic painting, 7.75” x 7.75” on watercolor paper.

Riverside
"Riverside"
A page from my Summer Sketchbook. One of my most favorite things to

and studying the play of light on the trail and the water is a
peaceful and meditative way to spend an afternoon. As all of my work,
this is painted on location and from life. It is Gouache on paper and
the image is 3.5"x 7".

Sun Baked
"Sun Baked"
Sometimes I have to look for a subject and sometimes it
appears right in front of me. This was at Huntington
Beach in Bay Village, Ohio. The color relationships are what I
found fascinating. The warm/cool contrasts and the extreme foreshortening. This is a page from
my Summer Sketchbook. It is a Gouache painting, the image is
7.5" x 5" on paper
This and other sketches and paintings are available for purchase here.
