Compliments of my Garden - Daily Painting, Yellow Day Lilly, Concord Grapes
After spending the morning at the river, I returned home and chose a Yellow Day Lilly and Concord Grapes from my garden to paint.

This is the second sketch at the river from my weekend at home (Ohio). I set up under a bridge and faced up river for the first sketch and down river for the second. Coming next are the two sketches from my backyard.

A Morning at the River - Daily Painting, Ohio, River,Morning Light
I went home to Ohio for a long weekend visit with my family. On Friday I was on my own, the kids had school and my wife had to work. I headed to the reservoir and completed two small paintings. I then went home and painted two more in the back yard. I'll post the other three over the next few days.

I am happy with this little painting. This angle of the house and chimney's reminds me of a child's drawing of a house and the primary colors reinforced that feeling for me. I always become a little more nostalgic during stressful times. Memories, simplicity, basic shapes and colors comfort me.

The heat index was well over 100. I chose to paint the river rocks in the sun but I stayed in the shade where the temperature was a cool 96!

Lilo and Stitch - background painting
I have been very busy lately, and wanted to post something. Awhile ago I came across a blog devoted to Animation Backgrounds and found one of my Lilo bg's. This was one of the most fun movies I worked on. For this movie we worked in water color.

The Keep Out Wall - Daily Suburban Painting, houses,backyards,wall
One of my favorite thoughts about walls is by Randy Pausch. It goes something like this "the wall isn't there to keep you out...it's there to keep out those that don't want in as much as you".

Linger and Loiter - Daily Landscape Painting, river, Athens, Alabama, rocks, branch
The river "Lingers", and then moves on, the rocks just "Loiter". I debated putting in the branch but when the sunlight shone through a couple of leaves the debate was over.

Brook Chatter - SOLD
I completed two paintings at this location. My first brushstrokes were in the bright foamy water. Everything else was "keyed" down off of that.

Red Hat, Purple Flowers and... SOLDDaily Painting, Still Life, Floral, Red Hat, Spring Flowers, Robin's Egg
...a Robin's egg. A co-worker found this egg on the lawn at our office and I talked him into loaning it to me for a painting. I don't think any other color says spring quite like Robin's egg blue. This set up has the same flowers as yesterday but, under a bright incandescent bulb. The set up yesterday was under a fluorescent bulb with a warm bulb in a clip on light from below.

A Brook - Daily Landscape Painting,The Brook,Tennyson,Tennessee Valley,
Whenever I come upon a stream or brook, I am reminded of the Alfred Lord Tennyson poem. This seemed a connection to good to pass... a brook in Tennessee and Tennyson's "The Brook".
