I am away...yay! I am visiting my father and hopefully sketching in New England for a few weeks. I'll try to post some sketches during my trip...In the mean time, here is an old drawing that is now available on ebay.

8x10" oil on canvas panel. This is the first of two paintings I did Friday morning at the river. Usually, I spend a little extra time in my studio working on my plein air painting. Sometimes I fix the drawing or adjust the color or value and generally clean up the piece. It seems to get easier lately to continue working on them in the studio because I think I am finally able to have a more clear concept of what I want and what I am trying to show.

I ended the day with a trip to  one of my favorite places to paint.  Frostville is within the Cleveland Metroparks and is maintained by the North Olmstead Historical Society. There are lovely gardens and plantings and several old buildings that have been relocated there, including homes, a farmhouse, a cabin and a beautiful old church. I also found the new foundation for the next building that is to be relocated (a schoolhouse).

8x10" oil on canvas panel. I found this shady spot high above the river . The ground was covered in a thick carpet of moss. The pools of light were jewel like, disguising the danger of the very high ridge and soft, loose ground cover,  right up to the edge.

A Neighborhood in the Late Afternoon - Cleveland, Ohio, Oil, Daily Painting

I was attracted by the sharp light and strong color and value contrasts on this late afternoon/early evening scene.

A Summer Street - Rocky River, Ohio, Daily Painting

I painted this from the shaded entry of the elementary school across the street from these homes.The parking lot next to the school was mostly empty and being late in the day no one was about. As I was nearing the end of this oil sketch a car pulled into the lot and parked. A woman in a bikini got out and with a spray bottle and a rag proceeded to wash all of her windows. There was a moment of distraction as there always is when anyone is nearby while I am working but I turned my easel and went back to my work. I finished my painting, packed up and drove home, all the time wondering if this was a scene from a Fellini movie or Candid Camera?

Three Plums -

Approx. 5.5x8.5, oil on Arches Huile Paper. The still life continues. I'm enjoying the studio time,  now that my studio is clean and organized.  The Arches paper is working out quite nicely for me, I like dividing it up for multiple sketches.
Update; the more I look at this the more dissatisfied I am with it so, I have scraped it away...on to something new.

Approx. 8x11" oil on paper.  A very quick sketch to try out this paper from ARCHES. I also wanted to try out the still life stand I built based on Carol Marine's design. All in all I have been trying new approaches and materials the last few weeks and having a great time with it.

The Girls -

Approx. 8x5" gouache on paper. The weather today prevented me from painting outside. I had a few seconds of video of my daughters dancing and playing in the driveway with our dog and used that as reference for this small sketch.

The Afternoon Passing By -

Approx. 8x11.5 gouache on paper. Watching the clouds,  a contrail, the shadows moving across the garage and lawn and the truck that I have traveled around the country in and wondering.
I painted this with my three color  (Deep Red, Deep Yellow and Cobalt Blue) palette and white but then worked on it in the studio later, adding a few other colors to the mix...I meant to take note of them , but...
